Criolipolisi, LypoCryo the elimination of excess fat

LypoCryo – treatment using a cryogenic technique, represents a latest generation method for the reduction of localized adipose tissue, or body fat, using a selective and non-invasive procedure based on the cooling of fat cells. This technique enables the patient to avoid the rather traumatic experience of methods such as liposuction and prevents the risk of tissue damage which can potentially occur with radiofrequency, ultrasound or lasers.

First developed in America thanks to the researchers of the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University, “cryolipolysis”, usually known by its trade name LipoCryo, has in a short time become a must have for the effective reduction of localised fat using only the application of cold to the area and without surgery.
The term “Cryo” comes the Greek kryo, meaning ice, and it is cold which used in combination with advanced technology to eliminate the excess fat. Fat cells are far more sensitive to cold than other anatomical structures present in the area to be treated such as the skin, veins, nerves and muscles, meaning that as they are exposed to the treatment they undergo a gradual and definite process known as apoptosis, meaning the cells die out and are thus eliminated by way of the liver and lymphatic system.
Remaining fragments are then exported naturally by the body after around 15 days.
The technique uses a special device which enables a precise and selective action on the specific regions to be treated and controls the cooling process.
Gel is applied to the treated zone and then a handheld device is used, combining both a vacuum effect and the cooling mechanism, eliminating the fat cells.
The treatment is painless, with only a small feeling of discomfort for a few minutes due to the tension effected on the tissue.

One session lasts around 45 minutes.

After the treatment there will be a slight reddening visible in the treated area and a feeling of heightened sensitivity which will disappear after a few hours.

The patient can return immediately to their normal work and social lives after the treatment is completed.

In some cases the patient may experience a slight bruising which will last for 1-2 days.

This technique does not damage surrounding tissue and causes no problems related to the absorbing of the fat, as can happen with invasive methods of surgery.

After 2-4 days post-treatment, there will be a light inflammation of the tissue around the treated area but without causing any swelling.

Results of treatment with LypoCryo are visible immediately after the first session though 3 months of treatment is necessary to see notable results, with the process of fat distribution necessitating a gradual process without placing undue stress on the skin.

Depending on the amount of fat tissue to be eliminated, one treatment may be enough, or in some cases two, with a 45 day gap between treatment sessions.

When is this treatment necessary?

Treatment with the use of criolipolisi is particularly recommended in the case of the presence of localized fat. The ideal candidate is not actually obese, but a patient who would like to reduce fatty tissue in a particular area of the body, such as the hips, around the stomach, the lower back, the arms or the buttocks.

How long does the treatment last?

Depending on the size of the treated area, more than a single application may be required. For example, two applications to the abdominal area may be necessary, one for each hip and two for the lower back. Each application lasts approximately 25 to 35 minutes, depending on the thickness of the adipose tissue. However, according to the size of the area to be treated and the thickness of the fat tissue, the session may last from 20 to 180 minutes. The procedure is not painful for the patient, who will experience only a slight tension from the effect of the vacuum and a feeling of intense cold, especially at the beginning of the session.

What can be expected after treatment?

Depending on the initial thickness of the adipose tissue, the average fat loss will be between 3 and 15 mm. In terms of percentage the equivalence of loss of adipose tissue is approximately from 25% to 45%. About 40% of the results will be visible after 15 days, but you will have to wait at least 6 weeks to see the full results. Only then should the decision to undertake another session be taken. In many cases post-treatment there will a slight redness and numbness in the treated area, which may last a few hours after the session. In rare cases a slight bruising may manifest itself but this is then reabsorbed within a few days. The patient can therefore return to normal daily activities without any particular discomfort immediately after the treatment.

he treatment can be used for the following areas:

  • Hips

  • Arms

  • Legs

  • Knee

  • Back

  • Thighs

  • Stomach

This treatment is not deemed suitable to treat serious weight problems, but rather to treat problems of localised fat.
